Tapioca Pudding is a minor female character in the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz. She first appeared on September 4, 1986 and kept appearing for a few month after until December 1, 1986.
Physical appearance
Tapioca Pudding's outfit is a pink dress with long sleeves. She has a poofy mop of hair, making her slightly resemble a blonde version of Frieda.
History
Tapioca Pudding first appeared on September 4, 1986. She appears in the same class as Linus and Charlie Brown.
Tapioca's most common character trait is probably talking too much. She always talks on and on about herself, or her father, which often bores and annoys other characters.
It seems that Tapiоca Pudding is very proud of her father's job, and therefore, has to tell everybody about him.
Tapioca Pudding's first appearance in the strip from September 4, 1986
Whenever she introduces herself to anybody she says, "My dad is in licensing" and then brags about how she will one day be on products, such as lunchboxes and T-shirts (She tells Linus if they ever get married, she will already be on his lunch box). According to the September 9, 1986 strip, her father's name is "Joe Pudding", implying that her given name is just "Tapioca" and she has "Pudding" as the family name.
Initially, Linus develops a crush on Tapioca, wanting to eat lunch with her, bringing her to the film theater, and buying her ice cream. This annoys Sally Brown (who calls her several dessert-themed nicknames such as "Grape Jelly" and "Blueberry Muffin"). However, he himself soon gets annoyed with Tapioca's constant talk about licensing. Tapioca has a crush on Linus, and even assumes they will be married someday. Every time she sees Linus she tells him "My name is Tapioca Pudding", to which the annoyed Linus replies "I know". Tapioca then, of course, tells him how her father is in licensing. In a brief story arc, she hires Snoopy for an agent to get her a job, but fires him after he books her to the Olympics event, two years prior.
Her last appearance in the strip was on December 1, 1986.
While returning her in an animated form circa 21st century, she appears in the TV special Snoopy Presents: For Auld Lang Syne, voiced by Harley Ruznisky. She also has a non-speaking cameo in The Snoopy Show, Snoopy Presents: It's the Small Things, Charlie Brown, Snoopy Presents: Lucy's School and Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin. She also appears in Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie, voiced by Isabella Leo, who also voices Lucy.
Trivia
- She is one of the many Peanuts characters who appear in the game Snoopy's Street Fair, where she owns a souvenir booth, which reflects how her father is into licensing.
- Tapioca Pudding's dessert-themed name and association with merchandise may peg her as a spoof of Strawberry Shortcake, which was a very popular 1980s doll during the time of her introduction. From 2017 to 2025, Peanuts and Strawberry Shortcake were owned by the same company, WildBrain (Canada).
- Ironically, one of the mean nicknames Sally gives her, "Blueberry Muffin", is the name of one of Strawberry Shortcake's friends.
