The Ford Motor Company, often referred to simply as Ford, is a multinational company based in Dearborn, Michigan which manufactures and sells automobiles. It was founded by Henry Ford in 1903.
Animated commercials for the Ford Motor Company featuring the Peanuts characters, which were produced by Bill Melendez, were made for American television. They began airing in early 1959. They were the first Peanuts animated cartoons, pre-dating A Charlie Brown Christmas, the first TV special, by some six years. The ads were narrated by voice actor Paul Frees, best known for playing Boris Badenov on Rocky and His Friends as well as Ludwig von Drake in Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color.
The commercials ceased airing in 1964 but would pave the way for future Peanuts animation after Charles M. Schulz suggested that Lee Mendelson contact Bill Melendez to do the animation for his 1963 Peanuts documentary.
